Belgian/UK industrial rock/ebm band. Members have included Revolting Cocks’ Luc Van Acker and King Butcher’s John Butcher. Staring capitalism in the face and spitting in its eye. With a band name like Mussolini Headkick, images of blatant fascism and ultra-right doctrine immediately come to mind. But English composer John Butcher denies any links whatsoever with the ideas of the legendary Italian dictator and his followers. He’s just interested in the fascinating history of the Second World War excesses.

Clock DVA is an electronic music group from Sheffield, England. Originally formed in late 1977 by founding members Adi Newton and Steven Turner, Clock DVA were originally known for making a form of experimental electronic music. They became associated with industrial music with the 1980 release of their album White Souls in Black Suits on Industrial Records, although in reality the early material that predates this release is a blend of extreme electronics and frequencies that was heard only by a spartan few, including Jhon Balance and other notaries.

Test Dept were an industrial music band formed in New Cross, London, by Paul Jamrozy, Graham Cunnington, Angus Farquhar, Paul Hines and Toby Burdon. Formed in 1981, they utilised the waste debris from the local scrapyards to create a sonic arsenal from recycled scrap metal. Their exploration of tonality was fused with experimental electronics and early sampling technology, film and slide montaged visuals, as well as combining traditional instruments, notably bagpipes from Alistair Adams. They are hailed by many musicians as one of the most influential early industrial music acts.

Seefeel formed during 1992 in London, England, when guitarist Mark Clifford and drummer Justin Fletcher met vocalist Sarah Peacock and bassist Darren Seymour. They released their first EPs on the Too Pure label in 1993. Stylistically situated at the intersection of dream pop/shoegaze and ambient electronic/IDM, their music has a distinctive sound. This might have contributed to the band getting a contract with the seminal electronic label Warp Records in 1994.

There’s a new generation of musicians weaned on Byrne & Eno, Hassell, and, in fact, the nascent sounds of the hybrid music propelled out of punk and new wave’s imploding dynasty back in the early ’80s. These musicians have also discovered the broad palette of world music, chosen such tools as didgeridoos and ancient percussives over guitars, and adamantly embraced the possibilities of electronics instead of snobbishly rejecting them.
